12 Day Cayambe + Cotopaxi Expedition

Manolo Guerra

This is an amazing expedition to conquer two of the tallest summits of Ecuador, Cayambe and Cotopaxi!. Besides the experience of climbing these two giant volcanoes and other amazing peaks to properly acclimatize and prepare yourself physically, you will also know the Andean cultural richness reflected in the colorful indigenous markets, beautiful colonial towns, old haciendas and the Andean farming lands.

Cayambe is a beautiful 18.996 ft / 5.790 m active volcano and the highest point on the equator that splits the Earth into Northern and Southern Hemispheres. It is located inside of the Cayambe-Coca National Park in the eastern Andes of Ecuador, 60 km / 37 mi north of Quito. It is the third highest elevation in Ecuador and due to the low skill level required, is an ideal option as an introduction to high Andean summits.

Cotopaxi at 5.897 m/19.347 ft is the second tallest mountain in Ecuador and one of the highest active volcanoes in the world! This beautiful, glacier covered volcano lies two hours south of Quito inside of the Cotopaxi National Park surrounded by gorgeous Andean landscapes. Climbing Cotopaxi neither requires prior highly technical knowledge, since it is a travel glacier ascension. However, this iconic climb requires proper acclimatization and being in very good shape, making this the most climbed peak by non-experienced adventurers and experts mountaineers around the world.
